New Year Event (Whiteknights) 31-Dec-17

All are welcome to join us! Will you have eaten or drunk too much over Christmas? Freshen up with a race around one of the UK's top ten favourite parks.  See below for more details but please note these key points for your own safety and to enable continued use of the area for orienteering...

Important safety Information – please read and be aware.

The campus is divided by a lake which is not bounded by a fence. The Long and Medium courses pass near the lake, please take care.

The campus is not a vehicle-free zone. Please be aware that bicycles, cars and buses may be passing along any of the campus roads While the speed limit is 20mph and there are traffic-calming measures, we cannot guarantee all vehicles will comply with speed limits.

  • All courses : follow the taped route towards the Start. Cross at the marked location when it is safe to do so
  • For Short course, two roads are crossed via Zebra crossings which are unmanned.
  • For Medium and Long courses, course will use and cross roads. Please be aware of vehicles.

The campus has constant building works taking place, so you may encounter scaffolding/ portacabins/skips in various random places. Please take care.

The campus can be heavily used by staff and students and members of the public, including, sports players and dog walkers. While we expect it to be quiet on the day our event (Sun 31st Dec), we ask orienteers to be respectful of all other users of the campus, and to keep their own dogs on a lead, under control at all times.

Orienteers are reminded they must not cross hedges or fences marked impassable, nor to cut across ground marked inaccessible (olive green on map), even if is physically possible to do so. Apart from these stipulations which are part of the rules of the sport, we ask all competitors to ‘tread lightly’ on the beautiful grounds of the Whiteknights campus.

By treating the area well, not cutting across flower borders, dropping any litter and being polite and courteous to others in the area, we increase the standing of the sport and maximise BKO opportunity of being able to use this area again in the future.
