BKO at the Compass Sport Trophy final

Keen BKO team members at the Compass Sport competition final near Stirling on Sunday 16th October. BKO went to the final through from the heat that we hosted at Rushall Woods in March. The Trophy is the competition for smaller orienteering clubs (<120 members) and the larger clubs compete for the Cup at the same event. 15 Trophy clubs joined the final, making a high quality competition. In the Trophy, the team score is the sum of the top 13 scores from the club, not allowing more than 2 scorers on each course.

20 August 2022 - Sandhurst Event and Summer Picnic

Today the club held a small event based at Sandhurst Memorial Park.  Nearly 50 competitors tackled the courses planned by Richard Rae which took them around the park and down into Shepherd's Meadow.  The day remained dry and club members were able to enjoy the annual BKO Summer Picnic at the end of the event.  Photos taken at the event can be seen on the Flickr album: BKO - Summer Event - Sandhurst.

Cerkno Cup Report - Slovenia, August 2022

Continuing with our series of reports from BKO members who have travelled to major events this summer, we have added a report on the Cerkno Cup.  This is an annual summer event staged in Slovenia.  Many of the forests have typical 'karst' terrrain with massive depressions making for complex and challenging courses.  On this occasion, the organisers included a 'bonus' TempO event - details are given in the report.  See the Newsletter section or click here

OO Cup Report - Sweden, July 2022

The OOCup is a long-established 5-day international orienteering event held each year in Slovenia since 1991. However, it was held in France in 2021 and, this year, in Sweden. When asked why, they said they were ‘running out of new good areas in Slovenia’.  We now have a report on how two BKO members coped in the complex Swedish terrain. See the Newsletter section, or click here.

BKO juniors 3rd in the national Yvette Baker Shield competition

Congratulations to the BKO Junior team who came third in the Yvette Baker Shield finals - the national inter-club junior competition where the smaller clubs compete for the Shield and larger clubs for the Trophy. This year the event was in a very complex area - Irchester country park. The woodlands are full of parallel ridges (old iron workings), some several metres high and with very steep sides.
