Event Details
Location

This event is being held at Star Posts with parking and assembly at The Look Out car Park.

Easily accessible from the M3 (junction 3) and the M4 (junction 10) - look out for the brown signs - the car-park is opposite Coral Reef Waterworld on Nine Mile Ride.

Public transport: The Lookout is a level 4K on path network from Bracknell train station

Terrain

Star Posts is a large, forested area with excellent contour detail. The forest is broken up with a network of paths and rides and currently slow runnable due to high bracken and ferns. Some areas are marked out of bounds (for avoiding mountain bike activity) and some for habitation protection. Any other changes will be communicated by Planner in notes at Start Lane.

Entry will be for 16+ on date of event, with U16 being able to accompany a 16+ entrant on condition of registering and signing a disclaimer at discretion of Organiser.  

Reviewing information on night safety and MTB activity is a pre-condition of entry.

Fees

 

Facilities First Aid will be located in the Assembly area. Toilets will be close to Assembly. The only café on site closes at 16:30. The only available refreshment is a drinking fountain (cold water). Please bring your own refreshments to the event. The nearest café is in the Birch Hill Sainsburys (note: closes 19:00). The nearest hot food venue is the Horse and Groom pub, about 1 mile away on the A322 towards Bracknell.

SIAC collection from 16:45, Starts from 17:00 - 18:15. Courses close: 20:00

Parking

The Lookout car-park will have an Orienteering banner at B3440 Nine Mile Ride entrance. This car-park is used by non-orienteers, especially mountain-bikers – be aware of them. The car-park operator (Bracknell Council) states parking charges apply at all times. The Lookout Team tell us, it is unlikely but not impossible that Enforcement team (independent of the Lookout team) could be in action on the late evening of the event. Please make your own decision on how to proceed. Current charge is £3.40, payable by credit or debit card or coin. Also be aware the car-park normally closes for entry from 18:00 – this is in line with our event last start, so we don’t expect anyone to arrive after 1800. If for some reason you do arrive after the Lookout car-park has closed, please see details of alternate car-park.

 

Alternate car-park: You may also use the Birch Hill Recreation Ground car-park, which is free of charge. This is about 10 minutes walk from the Lookout Assembly area, including signal-controll crossing of the busy Nine Mile Ride. This route will NOT be signposted by the Event team, but you may follow waymarking for pedestrian route to The Lookout Lookout postcode is RG12 7QW.
