17 April 2017: BKO at the JK Festival Weekend

The 'JK Festival of Orienteering' takes place every Easter (this year is the 50th) and it started on Good Friday with a 'Sprint' event around the Brunel University campus at Uxbridge.  BKO had two medallists - Adam Methven 2nd in M12 and Martin Wilson 2nd in M70.

At Day 2 of the weekend's Festival, the best performances by BKO members were in the M70 class. Congratulations to Martin Wilson (First) and Ian Cooper (Third). The event was a 'Middle' distance competition staged on Ambersham Common in West Sussex.  The courses were relatively short but had a high density of controls requiring intense navigation.

For Day 3, there were ‘Long’ courses testing physical as well as mental ability over tough long courses. The event was near Crawley in Buchan Country Park and the surrounding woodland. Martin Wilson showed himself to be a very consistent orienteer again taking the M70L class with a lead of over 2 minutes. Ian Cooper came in fourth in the same class. With the times from Days 2 and 3 combined to determine overall winners, Martin was the clear winner overall. Congratulations to him. A BKO junior also performed well taking 3rd place overall in the M12A class.

Finally, Day 4 on Easter Monday provided the opportunity to compete in club teams. Again the competition was in Sussex – at Pippingford Park, in the Weald.  6 BKO teams were assembled and although there were no medals here were some good individual performances.
