It’s the first weekend in November so it must be the ‘November Classic’ on Sunday. 34 BKO members (in classes from M12/W14 to M90/W65) will be tackling courses around the New Forest. Although today’s rain will have dampened the ground, the very dry October means that the marshes should be generally firm and the streams crossable. This year the event is one of the annual regional championships – the ‘Southern Champs’ - so good luck to you all! As a curtain raiser, tomorrow will see 14 BKO members tackling an urban event around the streets of Salisbury but hopefully not including going to the top of the cathedral.
BKO Events
Saturday 3 December 2016 - Winter Series & Youth League Event
As we were heavily involved in the two Greenham Common events last weekend, there is no November Saturday event. Out next one is therefore not until the start of December. We are using Bucklebury Common near Hermitage which is the area we used for a regional league event last November. To see the map, go to Bucklebury Routegadget. Registration will be from 10:00am - 11:00am with starts from 10:30am - 11:30am. Our normal selection of courses suitable for all standards of competitors should be available - White, Yellow, Orange, Light Green and Short Blue. For further details, see: Bucklebury Common Event.
Club Championships 2016
After some discussion, the Committee decided that a new format would be adopted for the Championship this year. For the last few years a handicap system has been used but this year it was decided to make it the fastest BKO member on a designated course. This will be based on the results of the Southampton OC’s regional event, SCOL4, at Ashurst Wood / Matley on the Eastern edge of the New Forest on Sunday 4th December. To compete in the Championship, men should enter the Blue course, Women the Green course and Juniors the Orange course. Details of the event are not yet available but they should be published soon: see: SCOL4 Ashurst Wood
Other Clubs’ Events
Saturday 19 November – SN – Saturday Event.
The next event in the Southern Navigators Saturday series will be at Eagle House School, near Crowthorne. The format for these events is very similar to our Saturday events except they use the SI system for timing. For further details, see: SN Eagle House Event.
Saturday 19 November – OUOC – Oxford Urban Event.
On the same day as the SN Saturday Event, for urban enthusiasts there is another event in the urban league series – both the National and the SEOUL. The event is described as providing “Fast urban racing through a mixture of beautiful Oxford colleges, runnable parkland and complex university departments”. Pre-entries are expected to close on the 13 November. For details see: OUOC Oxford Event.
Sunday 20 November – TVOC – SCOL3 Regional Event
Close to Oxford and the day after the urban event, TVOC have an event at Shotover, just to the east of the city. This will provide the next chance to add some extra points to your regional league score. Pre-entries are also expected to close on the 13 November. For more details, see: TVOC Shotover Event.
