7 January: BKO Update

Happy New Year to you all! Here is the latest of our regular Updates about orienteering in and around Berkshire.

BKO Events

Saturday 16th January - Winter Series & Youth League Event

Just over a week to go before our first event of 2016 which is being staged in collaboration with the Basingstoke and Andover club (BADO) on Snelsmore Common to the north of Newbury.  The courses available are Short Blue, Light Green, Orange, Yellow and White.  Registration will be from 10:00am to 11:00am with starts from 10:30am to 11:30am.  Club members will have received an e-mail from the Organiser on Tuesday asking for helpers – please contact him if you can offer support. For more details, see: Snelsmore Common

Sunday 31st January – Concorde Chase

Another warning of our forthcoming major event – our annual Concorde Chase being held at Barossa, just to the north of Camberley.  As parking is on military land, there will be no entry-on-the-day.  Please remember that we will need a good number of BKO helpers and, as usual, there will be discounted entries for those who volunteer – more details soon. Limited details are available at: Concorde Chase

Club AGM and Annual Dinner – 12th February 2016

We hope that club members made a note of this following the last ‘Update’!  The location is the Downshire Golf Complex, close to Easthampstead Park and between Bracknell and Wokingham.  More details to follow.

Other Clubs’ Events

Saturday 9th January – SN Saturday Event

Southern Navigators also have a Saturday series similar to ours.  Their next event will be on Saturday at Long Valley South, between Fleet and Aldershot.  Courses are expected to be Yellow, Orange, Light Green and Short Blue.  For details, see: SN Saturday Event

Sunday 17th January – SOC SCOA League Event – Busketts Lawn

This is the next SCOA League event – another opportunity to run in the New Forest. Busketts Lawn is mostly of high quality challenging terrain although the best bits are quite a distance from the parking site.  This probably explains the 1.5 km walk to the start and back from the finish.  There is no pre-entry.  For details, see: SOC SCOA League

Saturday 23rd January – BADO SCOA League Event

The following SCOA League event is being staged by the Basingstoke and Andover District club (BADO) and is using Blackwood, near Micheldever.  This is out along the A303 on route to Andover.  There is a full range of courses for all abilities (from White to Brown).  For more details, see: BADO SCOA League  Pre-entry is open on Fabian4.

Sunday 24th January – NWO Event – West Wood

This event provides you with a chance to make it to two ‘ranking’ event in one weekend.  West Wood is just to the SW of Marlborough. Note however that this event is pre-entry only with a specified limit on the number of cars permitted – entries will close when the parking limit has been reached so early entry is advised.  For details, see the North Wiltshire Orienteers (NWO) website at: NWO - West Woods
