8 June: BKO Update

First congratulations Martin Wilson for his performance in the Scottish Individual Championships on Saturday 23 May.  He had a full 2 minute lead in M65 making him the M65 Scottish Champion for 2015 – well done Martin.  Secondly congratulations and thanks to the team who helped the club stage our national urban league event in Great Hollands on the 30th May - in particular the planner, Mark Foxwell, and organiser, Fiona Clough.  If you did not attend, you can see a selection of photos at: https://www.flickr.com/photos/103669960@N03/sets/72157651377121054

Summer Training - Wednesday Evenings

Club Night this Wednesday is at Simons Wood, Wellingtonia Avenue, west of Crowthorne.   (Grid ref SU811635).  There are a series of short Sprint loops to get your legs and lungs working.  As usual start times from 6:30 until 7 pm (possibly 7:15 pm), finished by 8pm and followed by retiring to the Queens Oak at Finchampstead.

Next week (17th June) we are at Bloom Wood, Stephan Stasiuk has planned some really good courses testing your understanding of those “brown” features.  Entrance and exit is next to the Three Horseshoes pub, which we will be visiting on the way out.

The final BKO summer evening training is at Great Hollands on the 24th June.  Andrew Southwood has planned an urban score event, using the new Great Hollands map, visiting those areas that were not used for the Urban league event in May as well as some of those you may have seen.  Parking off Nine Mile Ride opposite the Crematorium and afterwards we will go to that old haunt, the Crooked Billet at Honey Hill.

Saturday 20th June - Summer Parks Challenge

The second of our summer parks/urban events is taking place in Bracknell and will be using the Wildridings & Easthampstead estates. Registration will be from 10:00am - 11:00am with starts from 10:30am - 11:30am.  For details, see: http://www.bko.org.uk/event/wildridings-and-easthampstead-20-jun-15

Work is now starting on the July Newsletter so please submit any material in the next couple of weeks.  There were two points from the last Newsletter on which your responses were requested.  (1) There was an article on the future of the SCOA League.  There will be a meeting of the SCOA League Committee next week and so any additional comments will be welcome and useful by Tuesday.  (2) The other was the photo caption challenge.  Anyone have suggestions for the thoughts of  World Champion Thierry Gueorgiou in the photo on page 9 of the May issue?  Suggestions for the photo and material for the Newsletter to the Editor by Friday 26 June please.
