Sunday 29th March – BADO SCOA League Event

The next regional SCOA League event is being held by BADO at Butterwood, just to the SW of Hook.  Mainly undulating terrain, the mainly deciduous forest has some ancient trees and areas of complex detail with some fenced enclosures and a good path network. The map also includes parkland by the private Greywell Hill House and the derelict Basingstoke Canal, including the western portal of the abandoned Greywell Tunnel.  Guaranteed entry closing date is midnight Monday, 23rd March although there will be limited entry on the day.  For details, see the BADO website at: http://www.bado.org.uk/20150329flier.pdf

Training Course

Happy Herts are arranging a Planners & Controllers Course on Saturday 28th March 2015 at Phasels Wood Scout Camp near Hemel Hempstead (10am to mid-afternoon).  It is suitable for people who:

·

want to learn about course planning, or

·

have planned, but who wish to improve their skills, or

·

want to be appointed as a Grade C Controller

Such a course is an essential part of being appointed as a Controller.  Event Safety training and some organising and planning experience completes the requirements.  Appendix C of British Orienteering Rules gives the details at:  http://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/page/rules.   The course will involve both classroom and outdoor practical sessions.

The course is open to members of other clubs.  There is a practical maximum number of people we can cope with, so people should log their interest as soon as possible.  The cost of the course is £10 which should be paid on the day.  Please contact Hedley Calderbank at hedley@calderbank65.plus.com to reserve a place.
