BKO juniors 3rd in the national Yvette Baker Shield competition

Congratulations to the BKO Junior team who came third in the Yvette Baker Shield finals - the national inter-club junior competition where the smaller clubs compete for the Shield and larger clubs for the Trophy. This year the event was in a very complex area - Irchester country park. The woodlands are full of parallel ridges (old iron workings), some several metres high and with very steep sides. While the Yellow and Orange were technically easier - mainly following the linear features including some of these ridges, as well as paths, navigation was challenging and the vegetation was thick in places. The Light Green and Green crossed many of the ridges at right angles, or even worse at a diagonal, and so there was a lot of short ascents and careful counting was necessary to find the controls - sometimes in the troughs between the ridges. The competition was very close and SUFFOC won with 497 points, followed by SOS 496 and BKO with 493.
