Map |

Terrain |
We are able to use this area for orienteering by kind permission of Mr. Hartley Russell and several other landowners. Please avoid areas marked on the map as out of bounds and respect private houses and gardens. Dogs permitted on leads in the assembly area. On courses short green and longer you may pass a deep lake. Please take care running around the edges and do not attempt to cross it. Bucklebury Common is one of the largest commons in Berkshire and home to a rich variety of wildlife. It has a long and varied history; from use as a royal hunting ground since 1086, to the creation of the large mounds to make a flat area for vehicle storage during the Second World War. The terrain in the woods and on the open common south of the main road is fairly flat, with a clear path network; north of the road, however, the terrain is more undulating with fewer open areas. As of mid-September there are some significant areas of bracken. These are mainly in the north part of the map and will effect courses light green and longer. This bracken is not mapped.

Bio Security |
Please come to the event with clean and dry shoes and clothing. After your run please follow the guidance that helps protect our precious environment: · Check · Clean · Dry Before leaving the event check your clothing and equipment and remove any mud, soil or leaf litter. Once home thoroughly clean your footwear and clothing and then leave it to dry for as long as possible. Many invasive non-native species are able to survive in damp corners for very long periods of time, but are less able to survive if the equipment is thoroughly dried. |
Photography |
The club has designated photographer(s) and details are available from registration. Photographs from the event may be used by the club and made available on the internet in accordance with British Orienteering guidelines. Please speak to a club official at registration if you have any concerns. |
